Going home - the foot soldiers head back down the Longdendale Trail.
On this day in 1882, 144 years ago, Well Heads and Hamer's Hill tunnels became operational as the Great Northern opened part of its "Alpine route" from Thornton to Denholme.
Forgotten Relics records and celebrates the UK's disused railway structures, still standing as monuments to the period of ambition, courage and endeavour during which they were built.
