Until 1965, Lofthouse Gate and Outwood were separated by a line jointly opened by the Lancashire & Yorkshire, Great Northern and North Eastern railways. Two years earlier, a short branch linking Robin Hood with Royds Green closed. These two railways were once connected by several colliery lines and wagonways.
No known trace remains of these industrial relics. However Luke Bennett and some friends have unearthed and photographed this structure. Is it a bridge or a short tunnel? Infill prevents further exploration but it’s a fascinating find. What stories could it tell?
