The eastbound waiting shelter at Barras was dismantled in July 2007. It's now in storage with a heritage railway.

In 1885, the North Eastern Railway extended its Spennymoor-Ferryhill line to Bishop Auckland, passing one mile south of Byers Green. Today, ramblers can visit the remaining platform.

Reputedly the world's first railway ticket office, this building witnessed Stephenson's Locomotion haul the inaugural train on the Stockton & Darlington Railway in September 1825.

Platforms at Woodkirk station still lurk in the undergrowth.

Perched on an embankment in the V of a junction, Cronberry's basic signal box awaits redevelopment.
