Maentwrog Road Station

Maentwrog Road Station

Maentwrog Road Station sat towards the northern end of the Great Western’s line linking Bala with Blaenau Ffestiniog.

The word ‘Road’ in a station’s title generally alludes to it being some distance from the community it purports to serve. By road, Maentwrog is about 2½ miles away.

Although the station closed completely in 1961, the 1980s saw a siding constructed in the former goods yard to serve a local explosives factory. And passenger trains were reinstated for eight weeks during 1989 to encouraging tourists to visit the nearby nuclear power station.

The main building and adjacent Station Master’s house live on as private homes.
