On this day in 1896, 129 years ago, the first passenger train broke the skyline on Fledborough Viaduct, a half-mile long structure crossing the flood plain of the River Trent with 59 brick arches and four girder spans over the river.
Leekbrook Junction sits at the northern end of the preserved Churnet Valley Railway, south of Leek in Staffordshire.
