Reshaping of British Railways

Reshaping of British Railways

A film charting the impact of Dr Richard Beeching’s report into the Reshaping of British Railways, published on 27th March 1963. It proposed that of our 18,000-mile network, 6,000 miles of mostly rural branch and cross-country lines should close. Many other routes should be retained for freight only, with lesser-used stations closed on those lines that did survive for passenger services.
