Two bridges for the price of one.
This attractive, 14-arched viaduct, crossing the Teviot at Roxburgh, formed part of the route from St. Boswells to Coldstream. On 20th June 1849, during construction, nine men perished when the pier next to the northern abutment collapsed. The cause was never proven.
Having fallen into disrepair, funding was made available by the British Railways Board and Railway Heritage Trust to carry out remedial works. It’s now Grade A listed. The footbridge which sits on its feet across the river is itself Grade B listed.
