Stamford Bridge Viaduct
Stamford Bridge Viaduct
East Yorkshire’s only substantial viaduct, this crossing of the Derwent – on the former York to Market Weighton line – features 15 brick arches with an elegant central iron span. In 1991, at a cost estimated at £60,000, East Yorkshire Borough Council announced plans to demolish it but, thanks to a campaign by rail enthusiasts and locals, it was reprieved, restored and is now incorporated within the Sustrans’ cycle network.
