Castleford Viaduct

Castleford Viaduct

This bowstring girder structure with lengthy approach spans carried its railway for 280 yards across the River Aire. It sits at the southern end of the 6.3 mile connection between Garforth and Castleford. Today it appears rather the worse for wear with corrosion and fractures along its length. This decline has occurred largely within the past ten years.

According to a local, the viaduct is destined to become a walkway. Considerable remedial work would be needed if that was to come to fruition.
